FAI Inspector

This position Maintains quality standards by approving in-process production and finished products. Records quality results. Calibrates inspection equipment.


  • Completion of a relevant 2-year technical degree program or equivalent experience. 
  • Applied GD&T and mechanical print reading skills. 
  • Familiarity with designing, performing, and interpreting the results of GR&R (Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility) studies. 
  • Experience in an AS9102, TS16949, ISO9001, or ISO13485 certified manufacturing facility. 
  • Familiarity with process capability calculations and SPC (Statistical Process Control) charts. 
  • Perform complex dimensional layout inspection to operation sheet/blueprint.
  • Approves in-process and finished products by confirming specifications; conducting visual and measurement tests; returning products for re-work; confirming re-work.
  • Perform 1st piece/FAI. Knowledge of Inspection Xpert/Net-Inspect a plus. Documents inspection results by summarizing re-work and waste and inputting data into quality database.
  • Working from purchase orders, special process certifications, operation sheets, blueprints, and other specifications, insure that all parts and materials are in full compliance.
  • Complete Inspection Method Sheets. Verify special process certifications to part specifications.
  • Understands and complies with SPIs
  • Keeps measurement equipment operating by following operating instructions; calling for repairs.
  • Maintains safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
  • Analyzing Information, Manufacturing Methods and Procedures and strong GD&T
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal skills, analytical and shop math skills, as well as working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • 3-5 years experience as an inspector in Aerospace or similar industry
  • Performs incoming/set-up/in-process/final inspection of machined parts per inspection plan requirements. 
  • Set up and complete inspection on vision machines. 
  • Provide support to Change Management and MRB programs as needed. 
  • Performs FAI (First Article Inspection) on initial production of new parts per the applicable customer requirements. 
  • Assembles all necessary inspection documents to accompany shipments. 
  • Identifies and segregates discrepant parts, and notifies the Material Review Board when discrepant parts are found. 
  • Archives inspection records in the appropriate storage locations (both electronic and hard copy). 
  • Identify improvements to processes to enhance quality, reduce cost, and increase productivity. 
  • Set up and complete CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) inspections. 
  • Select and use the appropriate handheld gage to perform inspection of certain part features. 
  • Maintain part and lot traceability information throughout the inspection process.

Technical certificate in related field required, Associate degree preferred. One or more relevant certifications awarded by a professional organization. For example: 

  • Certified Quality Inspector 
  • Certified Quality Technician 
  • Certified Calibration Technician 
  • Lean Certification 

Must have a minimum of 5+ years' recent experience in a position requiring the same or similar tasks in a manufacturing – aerospace environment. Must have excellent computer skills. Manufacturing, Government Contracting, Aviation and/or Defense Industry experience a plus.
